The new scam

Zwei Leute chatten online.

Two people chatting online.

David: Echt lustig was mir gerade passiert ist.

David: So funny what just happened to me.

Dan: Was ist passiert?

Dan: What happened?

David: Ich bin auf Gumtree.com gegangen um eine neue Wohnung zu finden. Es gab dort eine Wohnung in zentraler Lage. Also hab ich den Typen gemailt und gefragt ob die Wohnung noch zur Verfügung steht.

David: I went to Gumtree.com to look for a flat. There was a really cheap flat in a very central location available. So I emailed the guy and asked if the flat is still available.

Dan: Ich wette das war ein Trick.

Dan: I bet it was a scam.

David: Genau. Er meinte er lebt im Ausland und muss ein Flugticket kaufen um mir die Wohnung zu zeigen. Er sagte, dass er schon einmal Zeit mit einem vorherigen potenziellen Mieter verschwendet hat und deswegen eine Kaution braucht bevor er mir die Wohnung zeigt.

David: Yes exactly. He told me that he lives abroad and needs to buy a plane ticket to show me the flat. He said he had wasted time with previous potential tenants and therefore needs a deposit upfront before showing me the flat.

Dan: Haha genau! Und er wollte die Kaution über "Western Union", richtig?

Dan: Yeah right! And he wanted that deposit through "Western Union" right?

David: Ja! Und es gibt keine Möglichkeit das Geld wiederzubekommen, wenn man durch "Western Union" zahlt.

David: Yep! There's no way to get the money back if you pay through "Western Union".

Dan: Ich frage mich, ob es Leute gibt, die wirklich auf diese Masche hereinfallen.

Dan: I wonder if people really fall for this scam.
